Early Spring Sky by Diane Larouche Ellard

CA$435.00

Encaustic; measures 12 × 12

Statement:

Early Spring Sky is encaustic piece created using beeswax, damar resin, oil paint, and other media, involving a process of layering and fusing each layer with heat. Larouche Ellard starts with a base of collage, watercolor, and ink, then applies the encaustic medium and layers more mixed media, including pastel, oil paint, ink, and metal leaf. The resulting surface invites touch, allowing viewers to explore the texture in ways traditional paintings cannot. Encaustic, with a history dating back to the 5th Century B.C., offers durability and a unique tactile experience. The beeswax base is impervious to moisture and will not deteriorate, yellow, or darken, ensuring the longevity of her work without the need for varnish or glass protection. Early Spring Sky has been created on a cradled panel and does not require framing.
