Artist Statement

As a self-taught artist, my passion for creating art has been deeply influenced in my rural upbringing. I find inspiration in amazing rural landscape, especially with Saskatchewan’s stunning skies. However, I do not want to limit my creativity to a single niche as landscaping: there are countless subjects that call out to me, including floral studies and portraits of both people and pets. I aim to draw you in closely with my subjects, whether it is through the eyes of an animal or the beauty of landscapes and flowers. My primary mediums are acrylics, coloured pencil, and graphite and I have recently embraced the challenge of learning watercolour, a medium which is both challenging and rewarding.

My hope is that people will be touched through my work, perhaps because they can relate through their own experiences or an emotion stirs up within them. Art has become a major focus in my life with each painting presenting a new challenge and as a valuable learning experience and passion that I love.

Artist Bio

Sheila Tysdal, a Saskatchewan artist, has been drawing and painting all her life, but art has become a major focus in her retired years. It is a journey that is constantly changing and evolving. Each painting is a challenge and a learning experience which fuels a passion in her that she loves.

She specializes in acrylics, coloured pencil and graphite and her love of realism and attention to detail, with lost and sharp edges, creates a richness and depth to her art. Sheila’s art has been published in the magazines Anne Kullberg’s CP Hidden Treasure and Art and Color 365. Plus, has had several ribbons in Reflections of Nature Exhibition and the Saskatoon Exhibition. She has her work shown in a few local galleries and is also an exhibiting member of the Federation of Canadian Artists based in Vancouver.
