Prairiescapes 1,2,3,4 - Ui Hyang Kim
Ui Hyang Kim has a captivating style to her art. It flows but is also very striking with her use of vivid colours in oil. these images are 14” x 14” canvas stretched & framed measure 15 1/4 “ x 15 1/4”
I enjoy hiking and gardening and many of my pieces are directly influenced by this.
I love utilizing plants, open skies, trees, and wildlife in my work. I think art is a form of healing. Self-expression, mind clearing, sometimes storytelling, and explaining. Because I can take all the emotions I feel, pain, sadness, joy, anger, and put them on a canvas. It takes the rawness of what I feel and makes something beautiful out of it.
My distinctive style is strong, confident brush strokes, fluid backgrounds and spontaneous ideas that bring various subjects to life with vibrant colours. Whether impressionistic, expressive or abstract, a confident brush stroke, the swipe of an oil pastel or colour pencil helps build personality in every one of my works.
I use many different mediums, such as watercolour, oil, acrylics, alcohol ink, encaustic, clay and pastels etc. l believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
My goal is simple. To keep learning, keep improving, keep feeling the harmony of colours, and keep finding meaning.

Ui Hyang Kim emigrated about 2 decades ago from South Korea. She has a deep desire to contribute beauty and enjoyment to others lives, investing her time and skill in weaving a magical mark not just on the landscape and canvas, but in many peoples lives and even the lives of animals, that cross her path. She spends countless hours in the development of her many gardens and her paintings. A long and tiring trip from Alberta back to Saskatchewan took her past an unexpected and beautifully developed yard just off the highway, that energized and encouraged her. This was inspiration to create something similar, that might rejuvenate a weary traveller through the prairies like she had been. She has now spent many years structuring her own properties along the highway by developing and extending vegetable and flower gardens that is a large inspiration for passers-by and her art practice as well. Ordered rows of garlic, oak paths and ponds, her care of the animals and plants she is surrounded by and developing areas of interest and beauty, leave an indelible impression on the landscape and her paintings. Every year she is busy working to build something of value and beauty to be shared by others.
