Statement about Qu’Appelle Valley View 2
Growing up on the edge of the Qu’Appelle Valley provided an opportunity to appreciate the natural prairie environment and develop an understanding of the beauty found in all seasons. Qu’Appelle Valley View is based on my favorite scene from our pasture looking down into the valley as the sun rises on an early morning in the Fall. I have always been drawn to natural elements, untouched places, scenes with history such as iconic or older buildings, agricultural settings, and flora and fauna. I work from photographs or sketches completed on our travels and then paint in my studio space.
Acrylic is my usual choice of medium, however, I do some mix media, some oil or watercolor, and pen and ink drawings. I work mainly on canvas.
My philosophy is to understand your own style. I have attended a few unique educational opportunities but prefer to establish my own techniques and learn from my own successes and failures. My goal is to produce artwork that appeals to those that like realistic scenes and draw some personal connection with the piece.
